Warm up - Read the article on drilling to the mantle, "The $1 billion mission to reach the Earth's mantle" The assignment is on CANVAS, read the article and answer the questions. Submit the questions through Canvas by Friday December 7th at midnight. Title page 37 Evidence of Continental Drift. Draw the chart on page 37.
Finally, go to CANVAS and complete the assignment on the Evidence of Continental Drift. Make sure this is submitted by Monday December 10th at midnight.
Lastly, we started a blend-space on Continental drift and Alfred Wegener. This work should be completed on page 36 in your notebook. This assignment will allow us to hit many objectives quickly. The directions are embedded in each square. Read the directions before you start the assignment. Finish this up for homework. Warm up today was a video on Journey to the Center of the Earth. Next, we did a quick review of solid, liquids, and gases. The reason we are reviewing solids, liquids and gases is because we have a special lab today that we can only do today. It is top secret!! WE are going to add these notes to the back of page 35.
Finally we finished up with a blendspace on Continental drift. Title page 36 in your notebook "Continents Join Together and Split Apart". Go to the blendspace to complete the work. You may write on the back of page 36.

I also collected our pink chemistry review brochure. Following our review we did our notebook check. This will go down as a formal grade. On page 35 in our notebook we created a visual the layers of the Earth. You will need to provide the following information for each layer on page 35. •Density of the layer •Thickness of the layer •Temperature •What is it made of? •State of Matter (solid, liquid or gas?) You may need to go to several of the graphics and the sites to get all the information. http://clarkscience8.weebly.com/earth-layers.html *** Definitely, make sure you take a look at A Journey to the Center of the Earth, it is a very cool graphic of the Earth. *** You can watch the videos too if you need more information. Lastly, we did our unit test. This will be the last of Chemistry until we start reviewing in April. Warm Up - Click on the link for the rock cycle. Go through the slides on “How Rocks Change”. Read the pages and watch the animations for each of the 3 slides. https://www.learner.org/interactives/rockcycle/change.html Title page 34 in your notebook “The Rock Cycle”. In your own words, define the following words • Compaction • Cementation • Erosion/weathering Next, we went over the different types of rocks from page 33.
Finally, we finished with a scavenger hunt as a review for our test Friday/Monday! Reminder: Your brochure is due Friday November 30th(A day) or Monday December 3rd(B day). Here is the template.
Test and notebook check Friday (11-30) and Monday (12-3) UNIT TEST AND NOTEBOOK CHECK WILL BE FRIDAY NOVEMBER 30th and MONDAY DECEMBER 3rd We will spend this week both reviewing for our test and starting new material on Earth History. Unfortunately all of our classes are a little bit off from each other so make sure you are are checking which block you are in. Our warm up today was a review of balancing equations. If you would like extra help with balancing equations please make an appointment for tutoring any morning at 7:00. Next we updated our Chemistry Table of Contents on page 9.
After our review, set up our new unit in our notebooks. Earth History ...31 Table of Contents ...32 Types of Rocks..33 To start our next unit, we did a little research on the 3 rock types. I understand that rock types and the rock cycle is not new to you, we will just spend this one day reviewing both. Using the any of the websites below to find the following pieces of information about each of the rock types.
Igneous Rock - make sure you identity the differences between extrusive and intrusive igneous rocks. http://geology.com/rocks/igneous-rocks.shtml http://www.sciencekids.co.nz/sciencefacts/earth/igneousrocks.html http://www.scienceforkidsclub.com/igneous-rock.html Sedimentary Rocks http://geology.com/rocks/sedimentary-rocks.shtml http://www.sciencekids.co.nz/sciencefacts/earth/sedimentaryrocks.html http://www.scienceforkidsclub.com/sedimentary-rocks.html Metamorphic Rocks http://geology.com/rocks/metamorphic-rocks.shtml http://www.scienceforkidsclub.com/metamorphic-rock.html http://www.sciencekids.co.nz/sciencefacts/earth/metamorphicrocks.html Reminder: Your brochure is due Friday November 30th(A day) or Monday December 3rd(B day). Here is the template.
Very short week ahead of us this week. Even though it is a short week, we still need to keep it moving because we are very close to the unit and we need to move on to the next one. We have our unit test coming up next week and we need to get prepared for that. Those of you who are out of school and taking an early holiday. please make sure you read the right assignment for your block. We are all a little bit off and some blocks have different assignments.
Lastly, all classes took a quiz on school net covering elements, compounds and mixtures.
Thank you for being on your best behavior today. Your guest teachers is a former science teacher, she can be very helpful with what we are covering today. Do not talk to each other,if you have questions as the teacher. Do not ask to go to the bathroom, we have specific times when we use the restrooms. Ms. Solan will be presenting these notes but if anything changes, here are the notes on balancing equations that will need to be copied on page 29 in your notebooks. Title page 30 in your notebook Balancing Equations blendspace. Complete the pink check off sheet you have been given. All work should go on page 30. Whatever is not completed in class should be completed for homework.
