Our warm up today is a review of vocabulary for our test. We started the day by completing a Scavenger Hunt as a review for the test Wednesday. How well you do on the scavenger hunt should make your decision as to whether or not you should complete the study guide. I am attaching the study guide here, we talked about this in class today. It is due Wednesday, the day of the test. You are to complete it on a separate sheet of paper, not typed. It is OPTIONAL, but if you complete it, I will replace one of your informal grades(zero) with a 100. If you have turned in everything and have no zeroes, I will give you extra credit. earth_history_study_guide_2018.docx Download File Next, we watched the video, "The Day the Mesozoic Died" through edpuzzle. If you have not signed up for edpuzzle, here are the codes. As you watch the video complete the questions through the website. 1A – ojuciba 3A – dubepdi 4A - bilosad 1B - okcumzu 3B – viefool 4B – diobsed
Our warm up today is a review of vocabulary for our test. Next we did a gallery walk around the classroom reading about the different extinction theories for the dinosaurs. On a chart given to them in class we identified the "what happened", the evidence that supports the theory and the evidence that goes against this theory. If you did not finish, the handouts are found below. If you wre not here, here is the handout you will need to write on, either print it, or come get a copy from me.
Next I had you choose which theory you felt had the strongest evidence, as a class we went to the four corners of the room and discussed why each theory was good and why the other theories were not believable. After our discussion, we completed an assignment in CANVAS (Dinosaur Extinction) stating your claim with supporting evidence. To finish off the day and to review for our test, we completed a Scavenger Hunt. I am attaching the study guide here, we talked about this in class today. It is due Tuesday, the day of the test.
Since we are coming close to our unit exam, our warm up today is a review of the unit. Next we review the different t methods for determining the age of fossils and rocks, and climate patterns from Earth’s past that were used to create the Geologic Time Scale.
Next we did a gallery walk around the classroom reading about the different extinction theories for the dinosaurs. On a chart given to them in class we identified the "what happened", the evidence that supports the theory and the evidence that goes against this theory. Our warm up today is a review of vocabulary for our test. We watched the video called "The Day the Mesozoic Died". This is a great video that describes the evidence that supports the asteroid as being the theory behind the dinosaur extinction. We are going to attempt to this through edpuzzle, but I am concerned about us all watching the video at the same time. If the edpuzzle doesn't work, we will watch it whole class. I am attaching the study guide here. It is optional. If you complete it, I will provide extra credit if you turn it in the day of the test.
Lastly, we reviewed for our test with a scavenger hunt. Good luck on the test and happy studying.
Our warm up today was a review of the Geologic Time Scale. If you were not here last class, please make sure you get the notes and the football field that demonstrates Geologic Time Scale. When you are done, watch this animation of the history of the Earth. Click here for the History of the Earth video Next, we completed the Fossil Dating assignment on page 44. Here are the handouts if you did not finish them in class. fossil_dating_reading.pdf Download File ie_core_reading.pdf Download File radioactive_dating_reading.pdf Download File After finishing the assignments, we copied the table of contents on page 35 in your notebooks. 1.Cover… 31 2.Table of Contents…32 3.Rock Type Foldables …33 4.Rock Cycle…34 5.Layers of the Earth…35 6.Continental Drift Blendspace…36 7.Evidence of Continental Drift…37 8.. Next, we created a GTS to put in our notebooks in the form of a football field. Notice the majority of the football field is red for Precambrian time period. During most of the history of the Earth there was nothing going on. It's only within the last 500 million years that we had lots and lots of organisms develop. We then added the following events to the timeline. (attach the timeline to page 43)
Read the following document and answer the questions in your warm up folder. Then we did a quick activity that showed law of superposition using different fossils. Make sure you finish up the questions and turn it in today, Next, we took our quiz on the first sections of Earth History. I wanted to make sure you took a quiz on the information before you forget everything over the Winter Break. Next, as an intro to Geologic Time Scale we watched the following video and answered the attached questions on page 42 in our notebooks. You may start and stop the video as you go to through it to make sure you get the answers to the questions. Here is the link to the video. You will need to be in Discovery ed (Rapid identity) before you click on the video HAVE A GREAT WINTER VACATION!!!
The link to number 3 has been working on and off. It doesn't work, use this link. https://www.learner.org/interactives/dynamicearth/tectonicsmap/ Next, we took notes on page 42 on Rocks Provide A Timeline. If you were absent today, here are the notes. Then we did a quick activity that showed law of superposition using different fossils.
