We set up our warm up folders first today. We will use these folders everyday at the beginning of the class. Next we went over the cubes from last class. We did that activity to make sure you had great balancing skills.
Today we went over volume, learning the units, instruments and definitions. The notes go on page 4. Students did two mini labs calculating volume. One was a series of directions with the end product being a rainbow. The second mini lab was calculating the volume of irregular objects using water displacement. If we have time, we will be practicing more balancing using cubes in class. Review your notes! Please have your supplies by next class. Enjoy your long weekend. Another great day. We stated today finishing the textbook scavenger hunt. I hope you are excited about the topics we are going to be covering this year. Next we had a discussion about the importance of having a universal language among scientists and what can happen if scientists do not communicate.
Mars Probe Lost Due to Simple Math Error article If you had your notebook today, we used them to take a few notes on mass. If you did not have your notebook it should have gone on a separate sheet of paper. Please have your notebooks for class after labor day. If you were absent today, make sure you ask someone for the notes when you come back. Then we pulled out all the equipment and started practicing using the triple beam balances. THe equipment in the buckets is just some of the equipment we will be using this year. Once we got the hang of balancing "known" objects, we moved on to the "unknown" cubes. We weighed 9 individual cubes and then using a list of actual measurements tried to identify what the cubes are made of. Reminder to get your supplies as soon as possible.
Welcome back!! What a great start of the 2018-2019 school year! We went over the rules and expectations of the class. I sent home a green sheet with the students, please review the green sheet and sign the back. I have attached an additional copy here for future use. It would be great if everyone could have their school supplies by this Wednesday/Thursday. If not, the latest date will be next Wednesday and Thursday.
