Our warm up today introduced our new topic ENERGY... I asked you to identify all the things you plug in at your house and why you do not unplug them when you are not using them. Next we read an article about conserving energy and what we can do to save energy. Click on the link below to access the article.
12 Household Appliances You Should Unplug to Save Money All grades are up to date...notebook checks and tests are all imputed. Please check Powerschools frequently. On page 62 in your notebook we took notes on Energy. You can find that powerpoint here. Next, we broke up into groups for the 7 different types of energy (wind, geothermal, solar, hydrothermal, fossil fuels, etc) Each group was given an article to read and then asked to create poster of their energy source to present to the class. WE will begin presenting at the end of the block today.

This block will be slightly different then the other blocks today. Since we had that extra long class last Wedensday, you are ahead, but I do not want to give you the test until Thursday. We will do some more review.
But, here is a list of things you can complete today 1.Study guide due Thursday 2.Assignment on Canvas – Wolves in Yellowstone 3.Make sure notebook is all ready for notebook check on Thursday 4. Complete scavenger hunt Our warm up today is on Canvas (absent kids you ened to complete the warm up) As a review of ecosystem, and organisms role in the ecosystem, we viewed a short video on the Vultures in India. Vultures fill a critical niche in India as scavengers, so when they began dying out due to an unknown toxin, wild dogs filled that role in their urban food web. Vultures feed on the carcasses of cattle which, in India, are left in carrion dumps and not eaten. After a medical agent used in cattle was found to be poisoning the vulture population, wild dogs and rats quickly filled the niche the birds vacated; however these new scavengers meant big trouble for the human population of India. https://www.natureworkseverywhere.org/resources/vultures-indias-clean-up-crew/ Next we took notes on Energy Pyramids. You can find the notes here. These notes go on page 60 in you notebooks. Our last assignment for this unit is Carbon Cycle. Here is the power point for Carbon Cycle if you were absent. The carbon cycle goes on page 61 Lastly---we reviewed a little for our unit test which will be February 28th .
Energy/Ecosystems/Evolution TEST will be and Thursday February 28th. It will be multiple choice and on school net. Notebook check on Thursday. Our warm up today was a review of carbon and nitrogen cycles. Next, we did a review for our test...Your test is Wednesday and your notebook check too. Last class we talked about organisms' role in the ecosystem. Today, we read an article today about the importance of each organism and what happen when that organism disappears from a population. If you were absent come by and pick up the article so you can annotate it.

Energy/Ecosystems/Evolution TEST will be Tuesday February 26th and Wednesday February 27th. It will be multiple choice and on school net. Warm up today is on Limiting Factors. Read this article on limiting factors. WE added the questions and answers to the back of page 58 (instead of our warm up folders today) If you were not here, please make sure you do this assignment on the back of page 58. www.nhptv.org/natureworks/nwep12a.htm 1.List 7 limiting factors? 2.Why isn’t an increase in population size always good? 3.Name 3 human activities that impact animal and plant populations. 4.Why has the white tailed deer population increased to overpopulation in some areas? 5.What happens to a population when there is a reduction in living space? 6.What happens to competition when there is a reduction in living space? 7.What are some things that determines how many great white sharks can live in a particular area? Next, we added the nitrogen cycle to page 58 in our notebooks. Here is the powerpoint for the nitrogen cycle. Using a blendspace we added a bunch of information to page 59 in our notebooks. We covered everything from producers and consumers to food chains and energy pyramids. The first slide of the blendspace has the assignment listed, but I am attaching the assignment here too. The parts that are unchecked are what you have to do, the parts checked off with the green check marks are what needs to be put in your notebook. Here is the link to the blendspace. https://www.tes.com/lessons/QP8_RlcKTyoJ5A/ecosystems The check marks the items you have to WRITE down something in your notebook. The unchecked ones are videos/games/quizzes you have to do online. This all goes on the front and back of page 59!! Brainpop Usernames and passwords that we borrowed! If one does not work, pick another one username: rogersmiddleschool password: rogers username:nkpearson pasword: brainpop username: cabrilloelem password: pop1 FYI Unit test for Evolution, Energy and Ecosystems will be Tuesday February 26th and Wednesday February 27th. We will also have notebook check this day too. That means 2 big formal grades!! Here is the power point for today the nitrogen cycle.
