My dispersals will be doing the MOCK EOG. You should be getting a small sheet of paper from your dispersal teachers with the code: Mock Science EOG Secure Testing App Schoolnet code: BY9VY9HE Those of you who were on the field trip to Sports Connection, you need to complete the MOCK EOG on your own time. You have until next Friday.

Warm up - We read an article in Science World magazine on a massive Algal Bloom. We added two vocabulary words on page 87 in your ntoebooks today. We drew two boxes, one for permeable and one for impermeable. Next we went over the Zones in the Ocean (intertidal, neretic, and oceanic). We took notes on the different zones on page 88 in our notebooks. If you were not here, here is the powerpoint from today. On page 88 in our notebook we added a couple of vocabulary words (hydrothermal, phyoplankton, upwelling) If you were absent, here are the words to add.
We are going to start review with Chemistry. We will still be doing a little hydrology aand you will have a take home Hydrology test next week. You will read and annotate pages 2-4 in the EOG booklet. This is your booklet...annotate, highlight, circle...whatever works for you. Attached below is a link to quizlet Chemistry vocabulary. The key to passing the science EOG is knowing the vocabulary. Practice, practice, practice. Chemistry Vocabulary practice https://quizlet.com/_3e21wj To Do list for today: 1. Complete the vocabulary practice for hydrology 2. Update your table of contents 3. Read pages 2-4 in the EOG booklet 4. Practice Vocabulary on Quizlet
Today we read an article for our warm up about the Dangers of DHMO!!! It is shocking how often you come in contact with DHMO!! Then, we reviewed the River Basin Assignment and reviewed specific questions about aquifers, river basins and estuaries. Here are the notes for page 83. Next we went over some common causes and problems of water pollution in North Carolina. What you will realize is that most of the problems come down to too much excess nutrients we are adding to our water. If you were not here, you will need to get the handout from me and take a look at the powerpoint to fill in the answers. This handout goes on page 85 in your notebook. Lastly, we moved away from the fresh water and moved into the salt water. The last assignment of the day was on Ocean ecosystems. Title page : Ocean Ecosystems...86 We will be using the blue handouts in the classroom to complete the 4 stations on Ocean Ecosystems. The blue handouts in class, will be in the back of the room. You will need the links below to access what you need for Stations 3 and 4. Answer using complete sentences. If you are technologically challeneeged at home, I am here at 7:00am for you to finish, or you can come during homeroom this week. Station 1: Read the handout and complete the 3 questions on page 86. We are going to keep on going with water, pushing through as fast as possible. Today we are completing the River Basin Scavenger Hunt. Some of the classes started it last class. Next, we used the North Carolina's River Basins booklet to research some information on the fresh water resources in North Carolina. If you did not finish the River Basin Research Assignment, here is the link to the booklet we used in class and here are the questions. Finish this up for homework. Finally we ended the block with Water Quality stations on page 85. When we look at how "healthy" water is we are looking at pH level, dissolved oxyen, bioindicators, turbidity and temperature. When we talk about how healthy the water is we are not talking about how helathy it is for you and I, but how healthy it is for the organisms that are iving in the water.
Warm up - Today to finish up Biotechnology, we read an article on Genetically Modified Organisms. Last class, we went over where all the water on Earth is located. We talked about how little water is actually useable and unpolluted fresh water. Jay Z did some work with the Program "Water for Life" awhile ago. He traveled around to different parts of Africa and looked at the conditions when water is a scarcity. We watched some of the excerpts in class today. Then, we got up and moved around to simulate the water cycle. As we walked around, you filled in a chart indicating where you were traveling to throughout the water cycle. Attach the water cycle handout to page 82. Next, we completed the following independently on pages 81 and 82 in out notebooks. 1. On the front or back of page 81, answer the following questions using complete sentences. 1. What are 5 ways your family uses water? 2. What are 5 ways you could conserve water? 3. What is desalination? 4. Where is most of the freshwater found on Earth? 5. In what state do you find most of the freshwater? (solid, liquid, gas?) 6. Where do you find the liquid freshwater? 7. The average person uses 230 liters of water a day. How much does that person use in a week? 8. Create a pie chart showing the different percentages of water to land on Earth 9. Create a pie chart showing the different percentages of salt water to fresh water 10. Create a pie chart with the information we **** in the chart. 2. On the water cycle handout, go to www.dictionary.com and define the words related to the water cycle. Attach the handout to page 82.
Next, we used the North Carolina's River Basins booklet to research some information on the fresh water resources in North Carolina. If you did not finish the River Basin Research Assignment, here is the link to the booklet we used in class and here are the questions. Finish this up for homework.
Warm up- For our warm up we read an article in the Science WOlrd magazine on Microbes on your body. Lots of bacteria hanging out in strange places. Next we turned in our handout on Biotechnology that was assignmet 2 classes ago. We also added some note on biotechnology on the back of page 78. If you were out today, here are the notes you missed. Today, we are the starting the final unit of the year...HYDROLOGY! We set up out notebooks with a cover sheet and table of contents. LAST UNIT!!! I did a quick demo today showing the location of water on Earth (both salt and fresh water). The notes for this page are found here if you were absent. Hydrology (cover sheet)...79 Table of contents...80 Where is all the water?...81 Where is all the water? ...81 We went over where all the water on Earth is located.
